Project Ethos
Pedagogy
- Teachers teach in different ways, and learners learn in different ways. Through our approach to using technology to enhance learning, we attempt to provide a supportive structure without mandating a specific approach.
- With students, technology exists to support learning. We advocate using the simplest solutions possible, and sometimes the simplest solutions dont involve technology. We also believe in the creativity of students, and in their ability, when given a tool, to find constructive, innovative uses for it.
- Students, teachers, staff, and administrators all do critical work within a school community. Frequently, IT solutions meet the needs of one group at the expense of the others. In the systems we design, we seek to eliminate this tension.
Technology
- We will not fork code. All code contributed to or created by OpenAcademic will in turn be contributed back the the respective communities.
- Our solutions are lightweight and scalable. Many smaller schools might not have the budget or staff to maintain a complex infrastructure; this should not preclude these institutions from accessing developing technologies. Larger institutions with more students and a more developed infrastructure will also benefit, as our tools can fit within and integrate with your existing IT environment.
For more details on how our ethos informs our design, check out our blog. At OpenAcademic, we want to provide you with options as you design your learning community. We recognize that we might not be the perfect solution for everyone, and we're okay with that. We welcome questions; feel free to contact us .
